I have a window right beside my studio desk. It looks out into the city: I stand in front of it and space out when I need ideas for words or music.
Every time I do this late at night, I hear in my mind’s ear an in-between kind of electronic music: not too clubby but not too atmospheric.
Repetitive like dub techno, but with melodic elements that I know won’t fit daytime raves in Tulum.
So I’ve been compiling these sounds in my head and putting them together using Korg Volcas.
They can limiting and the results are often raw, but I’ve found them to be great writing tools for these little sketches that will eventually be full-blown compositions.
